We are pleased to announce that 150 copies of Issue 38 have now been printed and are ready to make their way into the eager hands of our readers. Huzzah! This issue features the talents of Chris Athorne, Laura R Becherer, Kirsty Dunlop, Martin Cathcart Froden, Emma Guinness, Vivien Jones, David Ross Linklater, Gillean McDougall, Kerrie McKinnel, Sean McLeod, Mairi Murphy, Victoria Shropshire, Maria Sledmere, Sarah Spence, Angie Spoto, and Peter McCune. Here’s a sneak peak of our beautiful cover, designed by Imogen Whiteley.

As this is the tenth anniversary of From Glasgow to Saturn, we will be holding two separate launch parties, one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh. Both are free to attend and will feature around ten different performers. Copies will be on sale for 5 pounds each.

The Glasgow launch is from 6PM-8PM at DRAM on Thursday, April 20th. You can reserve a copy of Issue 38 in advance, to pick up at this launch, through our Eventbrite page. Stick around directly afterwards for the Glasgow University Magazine launch party at the same venue! It will be a fabulous and entertaining night of poetry and literature.

The Edinburgh launch is from 6PM-7PM on Tuesday, May 9th at the National Library of Scotland. You can reserve your (free) ticket here. Some of our performers will include Alan Bissett, Carly Brown, and Martin Cathcart Froden!

If you are unable to attend either of these events, fear not! After our second launch in May, we will continue selling any remaining copies through our Amazon ordering system. These will be available for domestic and international shipping.

Lastly we would like to thank Dr Vassiliki Kolocotroni and the English Department at the University of Glasgow for providing us with funding this year to put Issue 38 together and launch it at the National Library in Edinburgh and DRAM in Glasgow. Your generous donation has allowed us to print more hard copies than ever before, attract a wider audience, maintain our website, and donate back copies to the British Library.

And to our readers, thank you for all your support in making this issue possible! Your contribution has supported and encouraged the dozens of both new and already established writers and artists featured in this issue, as well as past issues.

Here’s your gentle reminder that From Glasgow to Saturn is accepting submissions for Issue 38 until November 1st. That’s one week from today!

If chosen for inclusion, you will get a free hard copy of the journal and an invitation to read at our book launch party in Glasgow early next year. Your work will also be featured as a PDF on our website and promoted through social media. We have 774 followers on Twitter, 497 likes on Facebook, and an international following. Many of our contributors in the last ten years have gone on to win literary prestige.

Hello all! As we’re gearing up for the fall 2016 season, we have just a few updates for you concerning From Glasgow to Saturn.

First of all, we’re happy to say that the summer launch party for Issue 37 went swimmingly, with 10 people signing up to read their stories and poetry in the basement of Offshore. As editors, we were glad to be able to finally meet and share a pint with so many of our contributors and alumni!

If you ordered Issue 37 via Kickstarter, but haven’t already received your copy, send us a quick email and we’ll mail it out as soon as possible.

Secondly, we’re now accepting submissions for Issue 38! If you are a current or former student, staff, or faculty member at the University of Glasgow, you are hereby heartily invited to send us your most intriguing, beautiful works of prose fiction, poetry, essays, or book reviews. See our submissions page for more information on guidelines: https://glasgowtosaturn.com/submit-work/.

The deadline is November 1st, 2016. Those selected for publication will be notified by the end of December.

We’re also on the lookout for editors to join our small but dedicated team. Are you a current postgraduate who thinks you have what it takes? We are looking for between 2 and 5 more editors to help us run various aspects of the journal, from editing layouts, to organizing the launch party, to managing our social presence. Email fromglasgowtosaturn@glasgow.ac.uk for more information! The deadline for applications is September 30th.

Lastly, we are opening submissions for illustrations, graphic art, or photography for our cover of Issue 38! This is a fantastic opportunity for the best emerging artists to publish their work. All artwork needs to be 300 dpi and size A4 dimensions.

We’re in the final stages of editing for issue 36, our Failure issue, which we are sure will be our most successful yet. This is our first themed issue in over a year, and we’re excited about what the springboard has inspired from our contributors. We’re also pretty excited about our interview with MLitt graduate Helen Sedgwick, who is about as far from failure as it is possible to get, having recently become co-director of Cargo publishing.

Stay tuned for information on the launch night soon, which will once again involved booze and music as well as the usual readings, and should be taking place in the last week of May.

The University of Glasgow’s creative writing journal, From Glasgow to Saturn, is now accepting submissions.

In the carnival that is The Creative Process there is a most intimidating and oft-skirted sideshow. Behind the curtain there dwells just one caged monster. It cares about nothing less than your destruction yet how you choose to view it is everything. Some may find there thrills, some laughter, some delight and others a cold, cold misery.

From Glasgow To Saturn wants your amazing short stories, essays, prose and poetry on the theme of failure. The closing date is 22 March.

We had a great launch party for Issue 35 last Tuesday (27th Jan), at Pena in Glasgow. Thanks to everyone who came, especially our readers, and everyone who supported us by buying an issue of the magazine. I know our opinion on the matter is hardly unbiased, but we think Issue 35 is rather good, and looks, feels, and probably even smells better than FGTS ever has before.

Here are a few photos from the event to inspire jealousy in everyone who didn’t make. The issue will be available to purchase on the website shortly, as well as in a select few bookshops.
